How to pick the right app
Start with what you want. For dates in Manila, Cebu or Davao, Tinder and Bumble have the most people, and on Bumble women message first, which cuts the noise. For a long-term partner, FilipinoCupid and PinaLove are built for foreigner–Filipina relationships. A good setup is one mainstream app and one specialist.
Check your store's price before you pay. FilipinoCupid Gold costs ₱1,190 a month in the Philippine App Store but $39.99 in the US store (25 October 2026), and you pay what your account's country charges. English is an official language, so you won't need a translator.
Profile and first-date tips that work in the Philippines
Use clear, recent photos of your face, plus one of ordinary life. Say how long you're in the country and what you want. Many women are wary of tourists after a fling, so if you live here or visit often, say so.
Keep the first date public: coffee or dinner in a mall, BGC or Cebu IT Park. Malls are normal date spots here. The man usually pays. If she brings a friend or tells her sister where she is, that's a good sign.
Family comes up early. Be polite to her parents, add 'po' when you speak to elders, and know that many Filipinas help support relatives. Kumusta (how are you), salamat (thank you) and ingat (take care) go a long way.
Everyone on these apps must be 18 or older; if a profile looks young, move on. For the law, see is it legal in the Philippines.
Filipina scammer or real? How dating scams work
Most women you'll meet are exactly who they say they are. Scam profiles are an industry, and the person typing often isn't the woman in the photos. When the NBI raided a gaming hub in Parañaque, it found love- and investment-scam scripts on foreign workers' computers, and the government banned offshore gaming operators in 2024. Filipinas are targets too: the PNP says love scammers there typically pose as foreigners or overseas Filipino workers.
The US State Department warns about internet romance scams in the Philippines, and victims reported $929 million in romance-scam losses to the FBI in 2025. The red flags repeat:
- A sudden emergency: a sick parent, a hospital bill, typhoon damage.
- Travel money: a ticket, a visa fee, cash to get past immigration. The US Embassy never asks for visa payments through social media or messaging apps, and the Bureau of Immigration doesn't demand payments over the phone.
- A push to leave the app for WhatsApp, Telegram or Viber within days.
- Love declared fast, and always a reason she can't meet.
- Threats: the UK government warns of women befriending male tourists, then threatening to report abuse to extort money.
A video call no longer settles it: the CICC says deepfakes are now used in love scams. Reverse-search her photos, ask for a live photo holding something you name, and meet before money comes up.
Helping family is normal in Filipino culture, and a girlfriend you know may one day ask for help. A stranger you've never met asking for money is the scam. If it's happened, stop paying, keep every chat and receipt, and call the 1326 anti-scam hotline. Ignore anyone offering to recover your money: the FBI logged 10,516 recovery-scam complaints in 2025.
Frequently asked questions
What dating apps do Filipinas use?
Mostly Tinder and Bumble, the two dating apps in the top 10 of the Philippine App Store's free Lifestyle chart on 25 October 2026, plus Badoo and Facebook Dating. Filipinas looking for a foreign partner use FilipinoCupid, which claims 5.5 million members, and PinaLove.
Do people use Tinder in the Philippines?
Yes. Tinder is the country's biggest dating app and was a top-10 free Lifestyle app in the Philippine App Store on 25 October 2026. It's busiest in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao, and with a Philippine account Tinder Plus starts at ₱70.
Which dating app is more popular in the Philippines, Tinder or Bumble?
Tinder has the bigger user base and usually sits just above Bumble in the Philippine App Store's free Lifestyle chart. Bumble is smaller but popular with English-speaking professionals, and women message first. Plenty of men in the Philippines use both.
How can you tell if you're chatting with a romance scammer?
The red flags are money requests before you've met, a push to move to WhatsApp or Telegram, love declared within days and excuses not to meet. Video calls aren't proof any more: the CICC says deepfakes are now used in love scams. Reverse-search their photos and never send money first.
What case can you file against a scammer in the Philippines?
Usually estafa (swindling) under the Revised Penal Code, and the Cybercrime Prevention Act raises the penalty one degree when it's done online. Call the 1326 anti-scam hotline, keep screenshots and receipts, and report at home too, such as to the FBI's IC3.
